By modernising rail and ferry services, KiwiRail is building an exciting future, and you can be part of it.He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role:As a Mechanical Engineer you’ll be hands-on in maintaining and repairing KiwiRail’s Rolling Stock assets. This includes scheduled maintenance, incident recovery, and on-the-ground support to keep our operations running smoothly. You’ll collaborate with operators and team leaders, ensuring equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for action.Your day-to-day work will range from fault-finding and repairs to supporting operators with training on equipment use and safety protocols. You’ll also contribute to maintaining a clean, organised, and safe workspace that meets KiwiRail’s high standards.Key responsibilities include:Conducting maintenance, repairs, and fault-finding on Rolling Stock assetsSupporting incident recovery and other critical operational tasks, such as shunting and pilotingTraining operators on safe equipment use and routine checksMaintaining accurate documentation and safeguarding customer equipmentFollowing all safety standards and operating within your competency levelsYou may perform oil and water servicing, conduct safety inspections, handle refuelling, and carry out a range of basic frontline maintenance and repair tasksNgā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What (skills) you will bring:We’re looking for someone who thrives in a team environment and takes pride in quality work.
