We value the opportunity to consider those who believe they have the necessary skills and ambition to succeed at NREL.Job DescriptionNREL’s Hydrogen Production & Storage Systems Group within the Energy Conversion & Storage Systems Center is seeking an experienced Technologist in hydrogen technologies including hydrogen production, storage, and delivery systems. The work provides valuable support for research and development activities aimed at demonstrating and de-risking hydrogen production, storage and end-use applications. This position will help design, develop, operate, and maintain hydrogen capabilities focused on the evaluation of heavy-duty fast flow fueling, hydrogen system/component testing, electrolysis, and large-scale fuel cell systems. The work also requires knowledge in fabrication, controls, maintenance, and repair of research equipment.The successful candidate will have the ability to execute work in a timely manner, recommend and/or determine technical approaches for obtaining solutions, and take initiative to set direction and goals with project principal investigators. In addition, the candidate should have a strong safety mindset engaging directly with NREL’s Safety point of contacts and be fully functional in all aspects of NREL’s hazard identification and control processes.Duties Include Align research with hydrogen & fuel cell research priorities, needs, and project requirements with the Department of Energy’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office. Experience in hands-on and design systems integration. Experience in working on hydrogen systems. Document P&ID, maintenance, bill of materials, and compliance of safety protocols and procedures. Participate in process hazard assessments. Perform work independently and in cooperation with other team members. Follow all ES&H policies and procedures to ensure and maintain a safe working environment. Ability to work well both independently and in a team Good interpersonal and communication skills. Strong analytic and writing skills. Basic Qualifications
Relevant PhD . Or, relevant Master’s Degree and 1 or more years of experience . Or, relevant Bachelor’s Degree and 3 or more years of experience . Demonstrates broad understanding and wide application of engineering technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Very good writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
